Per Andreas Harz:

The BMW 3.0 CSi VIN 2264734 was manufactured on March 12th, 1973 and delivered on March 21st, 1973 to Italy. The original colour was Nachtblau metallic, paint code 040.

According to records with the car and anecdotal ownership history, the original owner was a German businessman who received it as a company car (Monsanto is listed as the first registered owner) while living in Milan. Manuals and initial service records/stamps are still with the car, and in Italian.

The owner was relocated to California in the 1980s, and brought the car over as a gray-market vehicle. It became his wife's daily driver until they sold it to a Bay-Area collector around 1997, when it went into long-term storage. I purchased it in September 2011.

Restored from October 2011 to January 2013 at The Werkshop, Libertyville, IL:
- 3.5-liter M30B34 engine transplant from 1985 535si
- Five-speed Getrag transmission, and LSD added
- Lowering springs
- Enkei mesh wheels refinished
- Repaint in BMW Ascot Gray (151; used 1979 and later)
- Recaro seats (came with car) recovered
- Vintage Becker radio and Petri wheel sourced, plus Hella driving lights
